Awami League and its front organization Sramik League could not hold their scheduled programmes in Karimganj upazila on Sunday due to the imposition of Section 144 by the administration.
Locals said Nasirul Islam Khan Awlad, convenor of the upazila unit of Awami League, called a meeting at Satarpur Government Primary School ground in the upazila headquarters for Sunday morning.
On the other hand, ABM Sirajul Islam, president of district Sramik League and chairman of Kadirjangal
union parishad, convened another meeting at the venue for the same time. Apprehending possible violence, the local administration slapped a ban on holding any gathering in and around the venue.
The restriction will remain in force from Sunday morning to indefinite period.
