144 BNP men get anticipatory bail from HC

The High Court on Wednesday granted anticipatory bail to 144 BNP leaders and activists including its joint secretary general Habib-Un Nabi Khan Sohel in six cases filed in different police stations in Dhaka and Rajshahi on charges of obstructing police in discharging their duties.
The High Court bench of Justice Md Habibul Gani and Justice Md Riaz Uddin Khan passed the order after holding hearing on 23 separate bail petitions filed in this regard.
The 74 accused of three cases filed with Shahbagh and Ramna police stations have been asked to surrender on or before March 21 in a trial court, said Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazal who appeared in the hearing for the bail seekers.
Other 70 BNP men accused in three cases filed with Charghat, Bagha and Puthia police stations get bail for four weeks, said their lawyer Gazi Kamrul Islam Sajal.
Three separate cases have been filed with Shahbagh and Ramna Police Stations on charge of obstructing police in discharging duties on February 13 this year and three other cases in police stations of Rajshahi filed on February 15 on the same allegations.
Advocate Fazlur Rahman, and Barrister Kayser Kamal also appeared in the hearing on behalf of the bail seekers.
