Benapole Immigration Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tariqul Islam said that the rights organisations would help them to get back to their respective families.
“They were detained by police and prosecuted for illegal entry, when the court sentenced them three years in jail. After serving prison, a Kolkata-based NGO took their custody and they returned through official procedures by the Home Ministries of the two countries,” according to the Immigration Police Officer.
An Indian court ordered jail for them after finding them guilty three years back. An NGO, Nilua Home, later took their custody, he said.
Following the legal procedures, several rights bodies, including Bangladesh National Women Lawyers’ Association or BNWLA, took custody of them, he said.
BNWLA Jessore unit Counsellor Nurunnahar said they had paid smugglers to cross the border in search of better employment.
Dhaka Ahsania Mission will provide legal assistance to the victims, in case they want to start legal procedures against the traffickers, said its Jessore representative Rafiqul Islam.
