14 school girls fall sick from mass hysteria in Barisal

At least 14 school girls from Durgapasa High School of Chanpasa village under Sadar upazila of Barisal were admitted to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital after getting sick from mass hysteria on Thursday noon.
Shila Sarkar, teacher of the school , said the girls were attending classes normally in the morning. Suddenly Akhi Aktar and Mousumi Jahan of class VI became sick and senseless with convulsion and vomiting. Then the sickness spread among the other girls at the school premises at about 11:30 am, she told.
Among the victims Arpita, Chadni, Urrmi, Rupa, mousumi, Akhi with eight others were sent to Barisal Sher E bangla medical collage hospital and admitted.
Dr. Abdullah Al Mamun, doctor on duty of SBMCH emergency ward, giving this information said the victims became sick after affected with mass-hysteria with symptoms of convulsion and vomiting.
 It may be caused from food poisoning or from physical weakness, psychological pressure, fluctuation of blood pressure, and mental affects created after seeing others sickness and usually affects the females, the doctor said.
