14-party announces ‘Mass Resistance Week’ against militancy

The Awami League-led 14-party alliance will observe a ‘Mass Resistance Week’ from July 15 to July 21 protesting militancy and the recent spate of target killings across the country.
Health Minister and 14-party alliance coordinator Mohammad Nasim made the announcement at a human chain programme at Bangabandhu Avenue on Sunday. The alliance leaders formed an hour-long human chain from Gabtoli to Jatrabari around 3pm, disrupting traffic and thus causing untold sufferings to people.
Addressing the progremme, Mohammad Nasim, also AL Presidium member, said, “At a time

when Bangladesh is moving forward, then a section of people got involved in conspiring against it and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. We will build a non-communal Bangladesh by foiling the conspiracy.” Referring to BNP’s demand for national unity, Nasim urged Khaleda to sever ties with Jamaat-e-Islami and apologize for secret killings and terrorism carried out in the country. Bedsides, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury said BNP-Jamaat are now involved in secret terrorism having failed to foil the 2014 national election.
Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon said a vested quarter is active in creating panic among people through militant activities and people will raise protests against militancy.
Meanwhile, Shirin Akhter, general secretary of a faction of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JaSaD), urged all to put up a strong resistance in every Para and Mohollahs of the country to stop militancy and secret killings.
