Robbery nearby outpost: 14 cops withdrawn

Some 14 police personnel of Gazipur’s Ulukhola Police Outpost, including its In-Charge and Sub-Inspector (SI) Rupan Chandra Rai, have been withdrawn over robbery committed in seven shops of a market, 180 metres away from the outpost on Tuesday.
The convoy has also two Assistant Sub-Inspectors, a havildar and 10 constables.
They have been attached to Gazipur Police Lines, SI Rupan Chandra told media on Wednesday afternoon.
Earlier, Dipankar Chandra Das, owner of one of the looted shop Rupashree jewellers, filed a case with Kaliganj Police Station in this connection accusing 15/16 unnamed people, said OC AKM Mizanul Haque.
Inspector Sohel Rana is investigating the robbery case.
 
Early Tuesday, a gang of 30-40 robbers wearing police uniform stormed Ulukhola market early Tuesday. They looted around 55 tolas of gold ornament and 340 tolas of silver ornament from five jewellery shops and Tk 2.45 lakh in cash from a pick-up van of a poultry farm in Ulukhola Bazar.
Locals said that the robbery would not have been committed if the outpost in-charge sub-inspector Rupan Chandra had been on duty.
