Some 14 candidates are contesting in the upcoming upazila election in four upazilas in Jhenidah. Nine candidates have withdrawn their nomination papers. Besides, one male and one female candidates for vice chairman posts have withdrawn their nomination papers, district election office sources said.
In sadar upazila, AL backed Ex upazila parishad chairman Kanak Kanti Das while BNP candidate Advocate Abdul Alim are contesting for upazila election.
Besides, independent candidate Munshi Kamal Azad Pannu and Japa candidate Harun Or Rashid are contesting there.
AL men Advocate Abdur Rashid, ex vice chairman JM Rashsidul Alam and Golam Sarwar Saud from the ruling party have withdrawn their nomination papers.
In Sailkupa AL secretary Sikder Moasharraf Hossain Sona and BNP thana unit secretary Raqibul Hasan Khan Dipu are contesting here.
Ex-UZ chairman Nayeb Ali JOarder of AL and BNP district unit environment affairs secretary Osman Ali, ex municipal mayor Khalilur Rahman and Sazzsadur Rahman have withdrawn their nomination papers.
In Kotchandpur AL candidate Sarufunnessa Miki and BNP candidate Serajul Islam are contesting for upazila chairman post. And Tajul Islam Kotchandpur upazila Jamaat Ameer is also contesting here.
Besides, AL backed candidate Humayun Kabir Lata, Kaider Rahman and Rabiul Islam have withdrawn their nomination papers from the ruling party.
In Kaliganj upazila, Hamidul Islam and Nurul Islam from the BNP and Jamaat candidate Waliar Rahman, Japa candidate SM Amirul Islam and Islami Andolon candidate Babul Hossain are contesting here.
AL backed candidate and district member Jahangir Siddique submitted nomination paper from Kaliganj upazila but his nomination paper has been cancelled due to be a dealer of fertilizer. His case is under trial of high court.
Five out of 30 nomination papers withdrawn in Barisal
Barisal Correspondent adds:On the last date of withdrawal of nomination papers five out of thirty candidates withdrawn in Bakerganj and Gournadi upazilas of Barisal.
Both alliance have rebel candidates Gournadi and Bakerganj upazila parishad elections scheduled to be held on February 19.
Five BNP, 3 AL, 1 JP and 1 IAB candidates for chairman, 4 BNP, 2 AL, 1 JP, 1 IAB for male vice chairman and 2 AL, 2 BNP, 2 JP and 1 independent candidates for female vice chairman posts will contest finally in these two upazilas.
Dulal Talukdar, district election officer and returning officer said three out of 13 candidates for chairman, two out of 10 candidates for male vice-chairman have been withdrawn their nomination papers.
None of the 7 candidates for female vice-chairman posts in these the two upazilas withdrawn, the returning officer added.

nominated will contest for Bakerganj upazila parishad chairman post.
Mir Md. Mohsin of AL withdrawn his candidature on Monday for this post.
Nasiruddin Haoladar, BNP upazila organizing secretary and BNP
nominated, KM Kamruzzaman, BNP rebel, G M Faruki, AL and JP supported,
and Iqbal Hossain Haoladar, IAB nomninated candidate will contest for
male vice chairman post of Bakerganj upazila.
S M Jubayer Alam of AL withdrawn his candidature on Monday for the post.
All of the female vice chairman candidates Tahmina Begum of AL,
Khadiza Begum of BNP, Razia Begum of JP and Kohinur Begum Monnujan as
independent candidate remained in contest in Bakerganj UZP.
Shah Alam Khan, present UZ chairman is AL nominated , Abul Hossain
Mia, BNP nominated, Nurul Alam, BNP rebel, Lokman Hossain Khan, BNP
rebel, Zakir Hossain , JP nominated will contest for Gournadi upazila
parishad chairman post.
Mrs. Maksuda Hossain, SM Manzur Hossain Milon, both from BNP,
withdrawn their candidature for the post on Monday.
Farhad Hossain as AL nominated , Abu Hanif Khalifa as JP nominated,
Mehedi Hasan as independent and Zahir Sazzad of BNP will contest for
male vice chairman post of Gournadi upazila parishad.
Anwar Hossain of BNP withdrawn his candidature for the post on Monday.
On other hand all of three candidates Syeda Manirunnahar Marry of AL,
Taslima Parvin of BNP and Kulsum Begum of JP remained in election race
for female vice chairman post of Gournadi UZP.
