Police, in special drives from Thursday night to this morning, arrested 37 persons including five drug traders and recovered illegal drugs- 275 bottles of Phensidyl, 1,200 liters of locally made liquor and 10,000 pieces of cow fattening tablets – from nine upazilas of the district.
Sources with the district police said, during the drives, Dinajpur Sadar police arrested 14 persons including five drug traders with 1,200 liters of locally made liquor, Khansama three, Birganj four, Kaharole three, Hakimpur police three, Birampur police one, Biral police two, Chilerbandhar police four including two activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Ghoraghat police three accused.
Meanwhile, members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive recovered 295 bottles of contraband Phensidyl syrup and 10,000 pieces of cow fattening tablets from Hili Railway station in an abandoned condition during the period.
The arrested people were sent to jail yesterday noon.
Jhenidah Correspondent adds: Police in a special drive arrested 58 people, including three leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami, from different parts of the district, on various chargeson Friday.
Azbahar Ali Sheikh, additional superintendent of police, said police conducted an overnight drive in separate parts of the district and arrested them.
BSS from Satkhira adds: Police, in special drives from Thursday night to this morning, arrested 41 persons including four activists of Jamaat-e-Islami from eight upazilas of the district.
Sources with the district police said, during the drives, Satkhira Sadar police arrested 14 persons including one Jamaat activist, Kalaroa police seven including two Jamaat activists, Tala police five, Kaliganj police six, Shyamnagar police four, Assasuni police two, Patkelghata police two and Debhata police one Jamaat activist.
Several cases, including charges of subversive activities, are pending with different police stations against the arrested persons, the sources added. The arrested were sent to jail.
