Staff Reporter :A mobile court of the Rapid Action Battalion [RAB] jailed eight fish traders for selling jelly mixed adulterated lobster and storing banned African catfish in the city on Friday.RAB-2 team also seized 1300 kg of adulterated lobster and catfish conducting raids in four fish storage, including Janata Matsya Arat, Sonar Bangla Matsya Arat, Sathkhira Matsya Arat at Karwan Bazar area in the morning.Executive Magistrate Md Helal Uddin conducted the drive.During the drive, the elite force arrested six fish traders-Upen Mallick, 35, Abdur Rahim, 35, Saiful, 28, Asim Haldar, 30, Mohammad Zia, 24, and Emdadul, 24 — on charge of selling contaminated shrimp.They also seized 600 kgs of shrimp from their possession.During interrogation, the fish traders revealed that they injected jelly, white iron, sago and water into the shrimps to make them weighty with an ill motive to make more profits.The magistrate sentenced Upen Mallick, Abdur Rahim, Saiful and Asim Halder to two months’ simple imprisonment each, while Zia and Emdad to one year’s jail under the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009.The RAB team also arrested Noto Gupal, 30, and Sanaullah along with 700 kgs of banned African catfish.The mobile court sentenced them to one year’s simple imprisonment each under the same law.
