Fortune-seekers: 13 more rescued from sea

Staff Reporter :At least thirteen more Malaysia bound Bangladesh nationals were rescued from the sea by the Coast Guard and the Border Guard Bangladesh from near Myanmar and Martin’s Island area on Sunday.  In-charge of the Coast Guard St Martin’s station, Lt Diction Chowdhury, said that a team of the coast guards rescued some seven victims of human trafficking alive from a Myanmar’s fishing boat near the island at Sunday night.The victims were identified as Idris Ali, 20, Ismail Hossain, 22, Imran Ali, 25, hailing from Sirajganj, Salauddin Sarker, 35, of Joypurhat andf Jaman Munsi, 35, Mannan, 19, and Alauddin, 28, of Jhenidah.Quoting the victims Lt Diction Chowdhury said the Bangladesh nationals were heading to Malaysia by ‘big ship’ after boarding it from a Myanmar location a month ago. They were taken to Myanmar from Bangladesh on small boats earlier.They were alter handed over to the Teknaf police station. “As the Malaysian authorities did not allow the ship to enter its territory, it went back to Myanmar waters. And at one stage we were thrown in to the sea. Some fishermen of Myanmar later rescued us,” the victims were quoted as saying. Meanwhile, BGB battalion 42 commanding officer Abu Jar Al Zahid said that a team of the border guard rescued six more victims from Shah Porir Dwip around 11:00pm on Sunday.The victims were rescued by the fishermen from the sea territory of the Myanmar and taken to some village in Akiab region of that country. The victims’ identities could not be known yet Lt Col Zahid said they were taken to Akiab region of Myanmar and then were sent back to Bangladesh water territory. The victims were then sent to Teknaf by a cargo vessel, he added.
