Over 13 lakh children aged below five years of old will be administered vitamin ‘A’ Plus capsules on Saturday in the city and district. The campaign will begin at 8am and continue till 4 pm on the occasion of National Vitamin ‘A’ Plus Campaign-17. Civil surgeon Dr Mohammad Azizur Rahman Siddique disclosed this yesterday at a press conference held at Civil Surgeon office at the south-eastern coast city.
Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Mayor A J M Nasir Uddin will formally inaugurate the programmes at Mostafa Hakim Matrisadan Hospital in city’s Uttor Kattali, CCC officials said. Over 500 supervisors including ward Commissioners of CCC will oversee the campaign. Civil surgeon office and CCC will jointly administer vitamin ‘A’ Plus capsules to the children.Civil surgeon office will feed vitamin ‘A’ plus capsules to seven lakh 53 thousand 738 while CCC will administer to over five lakh children.
A total of 4,861 temporary vaccination centers will be set up by Chittagong Civil Surgeon office and CCC will set up 1,248 temporary centers in 41 wards to carry out the program. Over 20,000 volunteers and health workers will engage for feeding vitamin ‘A’ Plus capsules to the children aged from zero to 5 years. CCC officials said several mobile teams consisting of 278 members in port city and 500 members in the district would be engaged to feed oral vaccines to the children at rail, bus and steamer stations as well as other places.
