UNB, Dhaka :Thirteen people were killed and many others injured in separate road accidents in the capital, and Tangail, Munshiganj, Jhenidah and Pirojpur districts on Friday.In Tangail, five people, including a woman and a child, were killed and nine others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck at Gharinda bypass intersection on the Dhaka-Tangail highway in Sadar upazila in the early hours.Two of the deceased were identified as Nur Hossain Manik, 35, supervisor of the bus who hailed from Sadar upazila of Kurigram district, and Mati Miah, 55, of Anantapur village in Phulbari upazila of Kurigram.Sergeant Kamruzzaman Raj of Elenga highway police camp said the accident took place around 4am when the Dhaka-bound bus from Bhurungamari upazila in Rangpur collided head-on with the truck, leaving three people, including a woman, killed on the spot and 10 others injured.The injured were taken to Tangail Medical College Hospital where two more victims, including a seven-month-old baby boy, died later.In Munshiganj, two people, including a woman, were killed and another was injured when a bus hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Gazaria upazila in the morning.The deceased were identified as Siraj Miah, 45, son of Labat Ali of Char Bausi village, and Saleha Begum, 40, wife of Mostafa Kamal of Guagachhi village in the upazila.Sub-inspector Ashraf Uddin at Bhaberchar police camp said the Laxmipur-bound bus hit the three-wheeler on the Meghna-Gomti Bridge on the highway around 10am, leaving one passenger and the driver of the auto-rickshaw dead on the spot and another passenger critically injured.The injured was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).In the capital, two people were killed in separate road accidents in Rampura and Badda areas.The deceased were identified as Sabiha Siddique, 32, a freelance journalist, and Shah Ali, 25, a transport helper.Hospital sources said, Sabiha, who was also an activist of Quantum Foundation, was run over by a covered van in front of BTV Bhaban under Rampura Police Station when she was crossing the road at about 3:15pm.She was taken to Al Razi Hospital at Banasree and then shifted to the DMCH where she succumbed to her injuries at about 5pm.Sabiha, daughter of late ABM Siddique, was residing at a house at Sekhertek under Adabar Police Station. She hailed from Shibchar upazila in Madaripur district.Meanwhile, Shah Ali, a helper of ‘Grameen Paribahan’ bus, received fatal injuries when his vehicle overturned on the road island in front of Badda General Hospital at North Badda at about 7:30am, said sub-inspector Sharif of Badda Police Station.Shah Ali was rushed to the DMCH where he died around 8:15 am.In Jhenidah, three people, including a Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leader and a boy, were killed in two road accidents in the afternoon.A bus crashed into a motorcycle at Jamtala on Kaliganj-Kotchandpur road in Kaliganj upazila around 4:30pm, killing bike riders JCD leader Sohel Uddin, 28, son of Kasim Uddin of Gayespur village, and his friend Faruk Hossain, 30, son of Atiar Rahman of Bathan village in Sadar upazila, dead on the spot.Police said, the accident happened when Sohel, vice-president of Sadar upazila unit of JCD, along with Faruk was returning from Kotchandpur upazila headquarters to the district town.In another accident, Mehrab, 4, son of Rasel Miah of Chaklapara in the district town, was crushed to death by a truck at Madhupur on Jhenidah-Magura road in Sadar upazila, around 5pm.In Pirojpur, a man was killed and his wife injured as their bike crashed into a roadside tree at Ranipur in Sadar upazila in the early hours.The deceased was identified as Tuhin Akon, 40, a fish trader and son of late Abur Rashid Akon of Khulna while the injured is Farzana Ferdous Nisha, 30.
