13 Indian fishing trawlers seized , 165 fishermen held from Bay

Members of Bangladesh Navy deployed at Mongla seized 8 Indian fishing trawlers and arrested 104 Indian fishermen from the southern part of Bay of Bengal on the charge of illegal intrusion into water territory of Bangladesh and catching fish from there illegally on Tuesday night.
The seized trawlers and arrested fishermen were brought to the naval base at Mongla (Digraj) on Wednesday afternoon and handed over them to Mongla PS .
SI Manjur Elahi, 2nd Officer of Mongla PS said that on Tuesday night when a contingent of Bangladesh Navy was patrolling by naval ship BNS Padma in the South Bay of Bengal, found a number of Indian fishing trawlers catching fish from Bangladesh water territory illegally. Then the members of the navy chased them and seized 8 fishing trawlers and arrested108 Indian fishermen.
A police officer said , only 24 hours ahead of incident while another contingent of Navy were discharging their duties in the Bay by naval ship BNS Karnafuli and seized 5 Indian fishing trawlers and arrested 61 Indian fishermen from the same place on the same charge.
After the arrest , an Indian fisherman Sonjoy Samanta committed suicide in its bath room with the help of a napkin. On the first day, some 3 thousand 1 hundred mother hilsas which were carrying eggs were recovered from the five trawlers.
It may be mentioned here that Bangladesh Government prohibited caching of all kinds of hilsas till October 9. Some 13 Indian fishing trawlers were seized and 165 Indian fishermen were arrested from the south Bay of Bengal on the charge of illegal intrusion in Bangladesh water territory and catching fish from there during the period from Sunday to Tuesday. A concerned source claimed that taking the opportunity of banning the catching hilsa in the country the Indian fishermen are very active to catch fish from Bangladesh water territory.
