13 including 6 SSC examinees killed in road crashes

At least 13 people, including six SSC candidates of Netrakona district, were killed and 30 others injured in separate road crashes across the country on Sunday.
In Netrakona, at least six SSC candidates were killed and 20 others injured when a pickup van collided head-on with a truck in Durgapur upazila on Saturday night.
Three of the deceased were identified as Arshadul, 14, Yasin, 8, and Hridoy, 17, but three others couldn’t be identified yet.
All victims were students of Gouripur Haji Amiruddin High School.
Netrakona’s Police Super Akbar Ali Munshi confirmed the casualties at a media briefing at 10pm on Sunday.
The accident occurred at 9pm on the Shyamganj-Birishiri-Durgapur road at Kalapara market near Shantipur village.
Local sources said that, around forty-five students from Haji Amiruddin High School, and Shalihar-e-Motaleb Beg Dakhil Madrasa, who had appeared in this year’s Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent exams, had come to visit Bijoypur with two pickups from Gouripur.
The victims were returning home when one of the pickups collided with a truck. Arshadul, Yasin, and Hridoy were killed on the spot.
Mizanur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Durgapur Police Station confirmed the news to the media and said that we rather feared the death toll might rise.
In Gopalganj, at least five passengers of a private car were killed when the vehicle veered in roadside and plunged into a ditch in Muksudpur of the district on Sunday afternoon.
The accident took place on the Dhaka-Barishal Highway around 3:30 pm on Sunday.
Abul Bashar, Inspector of Sindiaghat Marine Police Outpost under Muksudpur Police Station, confirmed the matter to the media and said that the identity of the deceased couldn’t be known immediately.
In Jashore, two people were killed and three others injured after a truck smashed into a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Santala area on Jashore-Jhenaidah Highway on Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Hasan, 32, son of one Atiar Rahman, hailing from Daulatdighi village of Jashore Sadar upazila and NGO worker Tania Khatun, 35, from Dhal village of Bagharpara upazila.
The five passengers of the auto-rickshaw also got injured in the collision. Later, locals took the injured to Jashore 250-bed General Hospital where duty doctor declared the duo dead, Jashore Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Maniruzzaman told.
