13 get life term for killings

A tribunal court of Kishoreganj on Sunday sentences five people to life term rigorous imprisonment in a sensational murder case of killing a Jinari UP chairman and Awami League leader.
1st Additional District and Session Judge Md Abdur Ahman handed down the verdict.
The convicted had also fined Tk. 10,000 each in default of which each of them will have two more years jail.
The convicted people are Abdul Quddes (50), Asad Miah (40), Hasimddin (48), Ruhul Amin (55) and Abdur Rashid (45).
On the convicts Ruhul Amin died naturally one year ago. When he was in bail. All of them are residence of Jinari village in Hossainpur upazila of Kishoreganj.
Md Taher Uddin Union Parishad Chairman Jinari Union and Upazila Awami League leader was killed by a group of miscreants on November 12, 2000 evening over a land dispute at Hazipur Bazar.
UNB from Siraganj adds: A court here on Tuesday sentenced eight people to life term imprisonment each for killing a man in Raiganj upazila in 2007. The lifers are Shamim, 35, Rabbani, 32, Mintu, 33, Kalam, 32, Dudu, 30, Ziaur, 28, Samad, 32, Juhurul, 25, hailing from different villages of Raiganj upazila of Sirajganj and Sherpur upazila of Bogra district.
Of the convicts, seven are now in jail while Shamim is on the run. The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each, in default, to suffer one year more imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, the convicts picked up Ibrahim Khalil, son of Kashem Ali of Hosnabad village in Sherpur upazila of Bogra district, from the house of his father-in-law at Pangashi village on the night of November 30, 2007 alleging that he had stolen a mobile phone.
Later, they killed Khalil on the same night and dumped the body near a club in the village.
