A total of five dwelling houses were gutted in a devastating fire at Belayet Ali road under Pahartali thana in the city in the early hours of yesterday (Saturday).
Fire service sources said the fire originated from an electric short-circuit around 3 am and hastily engulfed the adjacent areas.
On information, fire fighters rushed to the spot and doused the fire with the help of locals at about 4 am.
Fire service and locals said properties worth about Taka 10 lakh were gutted while Fire service officials rescued valuables worth about Taka 20 lakh during the drives.
Another report adds:A total of eight dwelling houses were gutted in a devastating fire at Bokshir Khill village under Satkania upazila of the district early on Saturday.
Fire Service sources said the fire originated from a cooking oven at about 1.15 am last night and fire fighters with the help of local people brought it under control at about 3.30 am.
Fire Service and local people said properties worth about Tk six lakh were gutted while Fire Service officials rescued valuables worth about Taka 10 lakhs during the drives.
