Dohar violence: 13 AL men sent to jail

Court Correspondent :A Dhaka court on Monday sent 13 activists of Bangladesh Awami League to jail rejecting their bail petitions in a case filed in connection with triple murder in post-polls violence at Dohar of Dhaka on January 6.Dhaka’s Senior Judicial Magistrate Afroza Sheuli passed the order after the AL men surrendered to her court seeking bail in the case.The accused people are Humayun, Rahim, Taru Miah, Liaquat, Russel, Alamgir, Anis, Shahjahan, Jahangir, Tota Sheikh, Akther, Ishaq and Yunus. Earlier, they secured bail from the High Court Division on January 27.On January 6, some supporters of Awami League candidate former State Minister Abdul Mannan Khan after the polls allegedly swooped on the supporters of Jatiya Party (Ershad) candidate Salma Islam at Hajarbigha under Dohar upazila, leaving three people killed and over 15 others injured.Salma Islam won the election defeating Mannan in the January 5 national polls. A murder case was filed with Dohar police station in this connection. Investigation Officer (IO) of the case and SI of Detective Branch (DB) of Police, Abu Bakar Siddique submitted the chargesheet against 60 people on March 4.
