National Vitamin-A plus Campaign was observed in the city as elsewhere in the district here on Saturday with basic objective to reduce the risk of child mortality, save them from blindness and develop immune system of the children.
Officials in the Civil Surgeon Office and Khulna City Corporation (KCC) said the National Vitamin A Plus Campaign (first round)-2020 was conducted successfully in all 68 unions under nine upazilas, two municipalities in the district.
The campaign conducted under the auspices of the Public Health and Nutrition Institute and National Nutrition Services under the Ministry of Health and Family Planning with UNICEF assistances.
Mayor of Khulna City Corporation Talukder Abdul Khaleque inaugurated the National Vitamin A plus campaign at Surjer Hasi Clinic in the city as chief guest while Councilor Md. Moniruzzaman in the chair.
Panel Mayor Md. Ali Akbar Tipu, Councilor Munshi Abdul Wadud, Deputy Director of Family Planning Department Md. Abdul Alim, , Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr. Md Saidul Islam, among others were present in the events.
The campaign has been carried out at 710 centres and 80 mobile ones and 1,420 volunteers were deputed for successful completion of the campaign in all 31 wards of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) area, said KCC chief Health officer Dr. AKM Abdullah.
Deputy Civil Surgeon (CS) Dr. Md. Saidul Islam said “We had set a target to feed around 2,71,341 babies with vitamin ‘A’ plus capsules during the campaign,” he said adding that around 31,643 children aged between six months and 11 months were given blue-coloured capsule of high powered Vitamin A while 2,39,698 children aged between one year and five red-coloured capsule of high-powered Vitamin A in the district.
Meanwhile, Deputy CS Dr. Saidul told that the campaign was carried out in 1,641 centres under in all nine upazila including two Metropolitan area of the district.
Staff Reporter from Kishoreganj reports: The National Vitamin A-Plus Campaign was inaugurated in 111 unions, eight Pourashavas and 13 upazilas headquarters of Kishoreganj on Saturday morning.
Acting DC Dulal Chandra Sutrador inaugurating the programme at Kishoreganj General Hospital while the Civil Surgeon Dr. Mujibur Rahman chaired the programme.. Police Super Md. Mashrukur Rahman Khaled BPM (Bar) and Sadar General Hospital Deputy Director Dr. Sultana Rajia was attended as special guest.
Institure of Public Health Nutrition and Department of National Nutrition Services under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare have implemented the programme where at least 5,16,400 children of 6 to 11 month-old and 12 to 59 month-old were feed vitamin A-plus capsule of Kishoreganj district.
BSS from Rajshahi reports: The National Vitamin-A plus Campaign was observed in the city as elsewhere in the district on Saturday with basic objective to reduce the risk of child mortality, save them from blindness and develop immune system of the children.
The campaign has been carried out at 384 centres, including 343 permanent and 41 mobile ones, in all 30 wards of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) area, said Dr AFM Anzuman Ara Begum, Chief Health Officer of RCC.
“We had set a target to feed around 62,168 babies with vitamin ‘A’ plus capsules during the campaign,” she said adding that around 7,950 children aged between six months and 11 months were given blue-coloured capsule of high powered Vitamin A while 54,218 children aged between one year and five red-coloured capsule of high-powered Vitamin A.
A total of 768 volunteers were deputed for successful completion of the campaign .
Meanwhile, Civil Surgeon Dr Enamul Haque told BSS that the campaign was carried out in 1,754 centres including ten permanent ones in all nine upazilas of the district.
He said 5,262 volunteers, 282 family welfare assistants, 228 community health service providers and 172 health assistants worked at the centres from 8 am to 4pm without any intermission.
One dose of one lakh unit Vitamin A Blue capsule was administered among 28,612 babies aged between 6 and 11 months while one dose two lakh unit Vitamin A Red capsule among 2,60,008 babies aged between 12 and 59 months in the district.
Dr Haque said the campaign was carried out to reduce death risks of babies, save them from blindness, caused by Vitamin A and develop immune system of the children. Besides, various problems including eyesight and night blindness could be prevented and cured through successful implementation of the campaign.
As a whole, vitamin ‘A’ plus supplement is helpful for reducing the severity and duration of illnesses associated with pneumonia and diarrhea, he added.
BSS from Rangpur adds: More than 4.71-lakh under five children (6 to 59 months) were fed with Vitamin A Plus capsules in the district today on the National Vitamin A Plus Campaign (first round) -2020.
Officials in the Civil Surgeon Office and Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) said the National Vitamin A Plus Campaign (first round)-2020 was conducted successfully in all 77 unions under eight upazilas, three municipalities and Rangpur city in the district.
The campaign was conducted under the auspices of the Public Health and Nutrition Institute and National Nutrition Services under the Ministry of Health and Family Planning with UNICEF assistance.
Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa formally inaugurated the campaign by administering Vitamin A Plus capsules to some under-five children at conference room of the City Bhaban as the chief guest.
With Chief Executive Officer of RpCC Md. Ruhul Amin Mian in the chair, its Secretary Rashedul Islam, Chief Health Officer Dr. Kamruzzaman Ibne Taz and Health Inspector Abdul Kaiyum attended the occasion.
Dr. Kamruzzaman said 634 volunteers under the supervision of 75 supervisors and eight satellite monitoring teams provided Vitamin A Plus Capsules at 295 outreach centres in the city today.
“Around 19,000 babies (6-11 months) and 1.07-lakh babies (12-59 months) were administered with one dose of one lakh unit Vitamin A Plus Blue capsule and one dose of two lakh unit of Vitamin A Red capsule each respectively,” he added.
Meanwhile, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Mostafa Khaled Ahmed launched the campaign by administering Vitamin A Plus Capsules to some under-five babies at Gokulpur Community Clinic in Haridebpur union of Sadar upazila as the chief guest.
Presided over by Civil Surgeon Dr. Hirombo Kumar Roy, District Coordinator of Nutrition International Langkesh Barman and District Health Superintend Arbindu Kumar Modak attended the function. The Civil Surgeon said some 3.45-lakh under five children (6 to 59 months) were immunised with Vitamin A Plus capsules in the district on Saturday.
“One dose of one-lakh unit Vitamin A Blue capsule were administered to 36,000 children (6 to 11 months) and one dose two-lakh unit Vitamin ‘A’ he added.

He said 4,926 people, including 3,664 volunteers, 697 health workers and 565 family welfare assistants worked at 1,832 outreach centres and special steps were taken at bus stands and other places to carry out the campaign.
