12th founding anniv celebrated at SAU

Sylhet Agricultural University celebrated its 12th founding anniversary through different programmes on Friday. University VC Md Matiar Rahman Hawlader inaugurated the celebration programmes at about 9:00am with the hoisting of the National Flag in front of the administrative building on the campus. University teachers and students sang the national anthem in chorus during the hoisting. VC later led a colourful rally brought out on the campus. Teachers, students, officials and employees joined the procession which paraded the main roads on the campus. Addressing a discussion held at the Central Auditorium, Sylhet Agricultural University vice-chancellor sought cooperation from all for the continued progress of university. University deans’ council convener Abul Kashem presided over the discussion that was addressed, among others, by registrar Badrul Islam, SAU Teachers’ Association president Pijosh Kanti Sarker, proctor Mrittunjay Kundu, public relation and publication affairs director Anisur Rahman and university employees’ association president Shah Alam Suruk. Around 4,000 students were currently enrolled at 47 departments under six faculties of the university. The university campus was initially established on 50 acres of land at Alurtal on the outskirts of Sylhet city. More than 12.3 acres of land was acquired later to establish a second campus at Khadim Nagar, around 10 kilometers away from the main campus.
