Consumers will have to pay an additional Tk102 in August for a 12 kg Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinder from private suppliers. The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has raised the price of LPG from Tk891 to Tk993.
The new prices, adjusted on the basis of global fuel market rates, will be effective from 1 August.
The price of one litre of autogas will be Tk48.71, which is Tk44 now.
However, the price for state-run LP Gas Limited’s 12.5 kg gas cylinder will remain unchanged due to no changes in the production cost, said BERC Chairman Abdul Jalil at a virtual press briefing on Thursday.
He said the price of 1 kg of LPG provided by businesses in the private sector will be Tk82.75 in August, currently Tk74.24 this month. The price for other cylinder sizes will be set according to this rate.
Previously private operators were at liberty to set their own prices. But on 12 April this year, the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission, determined and set the price for LPG for the first time, both in the public and private sector.
It was said back then in April that the commission will adjust the retail price of LP Gas based on the Saudi contract price of Propane and Butane.
Among others, BERC members Maqbool E-Elahi Chowdhury, Mohammad Abu Faruk, Bazlur Rahman, Secretary Rubina Ferdous, and Deputy Director Kamruzzaman, were present at the press conference.
