About 100,000 persons afflicted with dengue were admitted to hospitals since January to November this year according to official records of the Health Directorate’s Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room.
The Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research has received 264 reports of dengue-related deaths. It has reviewed 203 of them and confirmed 129 deaths. However, unofficial reports claim 300 deaths by dengue this year.
Assistant Director of the Control Room, Ayesha Akhter, said that the data was collected from 12 government and semi-government hospitals and 29 private hospitals in Dhaka city as well as from Civil Surgeons of 64 districts. The information was collected only from hospitals regularly monitored by the Health Directorate.
Meanwhile, 73 new dengue patients, including 37 in Dhaka, were admitted to hospitals across the country in the last 24 hours till 8am on Friday.
Among those hospitlised, 99,306 recovered in full, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.
Currently, 451 patients, including 251 in the capital, are being treated at different hospitals.
Bangladesh witnessed a massive outbreak of mosquito-borne dengue disease this year.
Wreaking havoc across the capital, the dengue disease spread across the country.
But the situation started improving from the beginning of September with relatively low number of new cases.
