Staff Reporter :
After a massive chaos of uncertainty, a total of 1,27,162 hajj pilgrims finally reached Makkah from Bangladesh for performing the holy hajj this year, sources said.
Of them, Biman Bangladesh Airlines has carried 64,862 pilgrims while Saudi Airlines 62,300.
Besides, 875 government officials, different professionals and members of parliament are also performing hajj this year.
Due to mismanagement and fraudulency of some hajj agencies, 29 hajj flights had to be cancelled – 24 Biman flights and 5 Saudi flights. These fraudulent agencies also did not submit around 951 pilgrims’ passports to Saudi Embassy for visa clearance.
More than 350 pilgrims also could not perform hajj this year due to the fraudulency of some agencies, though they have paid adequate fees for performing hajj.
A general diary has already been filed against those defaulted agencies, Hajj Agencies Association of Bangladesh (HAAB) sources said.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs has announced that for reducing the sufferings of the pilgrims, from next year the government will amend laws and increase quota for performing hajj under the government management than the private ones.
