Leaders of the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) on Tuesday said the country’s population will be around 250 million by 2030 and around 120 million people would be entered into the labour market by the period.
But there is no specific plan to create employment for the huge number of employable people of the country, it said
IDEB leaders came up with the information at a press conference held at IDEB’s Bhaban in the capital’s Kakrail ahead of their 24th national conference scheduled to be started on September 1.
IDEB President AKM Hamid in his speech said the country’s population will be 250 million by 2030 while around 120 million people will be entered into the labour market but where is the plan to create employment for the huge number of labour force?
He said the country has only 88 lakh hectares of agricultural land. Every year, lakhs of hectares of valuable agricultural land are being lost due to the construction of houses, roads, entertainment resorts, brick kilns and infrastructure.”
“If this trend continues, there is a danger that agricultural land will run out within the next 40 to 50 years. So, initiatives will have to be taken to protect the land and enhance employment using technical and vocational education in the country.”
Otherwise, the unemployment will hit the country while there will be created extreme risk of food security, he said.
IDEB’s General Secretary Md. Shamsur Rahman said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina declared to make Bangladesh a developed country by 2041 but there is a need to overcome the energy crisis including tripling the current numbers of employment, and use of renewable energy in the country. Apart from this, initiative will have to be taken for improving technical and vocational education for human resource development and facing challenges of the fourth industrial revolution and saving the agricultural land to make a developed Bangladesh.
They also suggested giving importance to technical and vocational education for transforming people as skilled human resources. A K M Abdul Motaleb, Vice President (Dhaka Region), Md. Sirajul Islam, Public Relation & Publicity Secretary, Md. Idris Ali, Education & Training Secretary and other leaders of the Institution were present in the event.
