Staff Reporter :Detective Branch (DB) of Police in separate drives seized huge stash of explosive materials from Dhaka and Chittagong on Sunday night.They also arrested four persons in this connection.The detained persons are: Awal, Alam, Sharif and Saidul, detective police official said.Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Joint Commissioner Monirul Islam said this in a press briefing in the capital’s Mintoo Road on Monday afternoon.Receiving secret information that someone will sell explosive materials at Lalbagh , the detectives moved there quickly and first arrested Awal with two kg of explosive materials, the DMP spokesman said.Later around 4:00am, based on information given by Awal, the law enforcers arrested Alam and Sharif from Chawkbazar and Lalbagh areas respectively.Sadarghat Police Station in Chittagong held the ‘supplier’ Saidul from his six-storied residence with around 1,200kg of explosives, the DB official said.”Saidul stored the materials in his two bedrooms on his fourth floor,” Monirul said. The materials are Sulfur, hexacloride and Lithium, and these are considered strong chemical elements, he said.”Many powerful bombs could have been made with these elements,” the Joint Commissioner said.Police are investigating the involvement of the arrested persons with militancy, he said. Two cases were filed in this connection, he further said.
