About eighty thousand members of twelve thousand families in 40 villages of 10 upazilas under 4 districts of Barisal have started observing fasting of holy Ramzan from Thursday following the calendar of Saudi Arabia.
Sources said they are the followers of Pir of Zahangiria and Kaderia Torika of Elahabad Sufi Darbarsharif at Kanchan Nagor under Satkania of Chittagong and Badarpur under Patuakhali district.
They are the resident of 40 villages of Babuganj, Bakerganj, and Sadar upazilas of Barisal district, Rangabali, Galachipa, Baufal, Kalapara and Sadar upazilas of Patuakhali, Charfesson upazila of Bhola and Nalcity upazila of Jhalakathi districts.
Abdur Rashid, one of the followers of the sect, said they usually observe all religious festivals, customs and worshipping according to the calendar and systems of Saudi Arabia and started observing fasting of holy Ramadan from Thursday due to this.
Golam Rahman Mir, one of the participants of the Ramadan fasting from Thursday claimed they are the followers of Kaderia, Jahangiria and Chishtia Tarika and Pir of Elahabad Sufia Darbarsharif at Kanchan Nagor and Pir Shaheb of Mariachi Darbar Sharif of Satkania under Chittagong district.
