1,200 unions enjoy BTCL optical fibre Network

State Minister for Posts and Telecommunication Tarana Halim said Bangladesh Telecommunication Company Limited (BTCL) brought 1,200 unions under optical fibre network for ensuring Internet facility through broadband across the country.
“The government is working to bring all rural unions under optical fibre network aimed at turning a digital Bangladesh,” she said this on Thursday, while relying to a question from treasury bench member A K M Jahangir Hussein of Patuakhali-3 in the Jatiya Sangsad.
Tarana said the BTCL has undertaken an initiative to bring 1,000 unions out of the rest unions to install optical fibre and sent a DPP to planning commission.
But a meeting of Domestic Network Committee (DNCC) decided to implement the project under Information and Communication Technology (ICT) division.
Besides, the ICT division has also been undertaking initiative to install optical fibre network at char, river, canal surrounded and remote areas, she informed the House.
