Around 1200 tourists, who have been stranded on Saint Martin’s Island in the Bay of Bengal due to severe cyclonic storm ‘Bulbul’, were backed from Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar on Monday afternoon.
Three ships brought back the stranded tourists from St Martin’s Island. The ships are- MB Farhan, Keari Cruise and Dine and Atlantic Cruise.
The ships departed from Teknaf’s Damdamiya Port at around 10:30 am on Monday under the management of Teknaf Upazila administration, said Amjad Hossain, Co-ordinator of Bangladesh Inland Shipping Authority (BIWTA) in Teknaf.
At least 1,191 tourists have been stranded on Saint Martin’s Island in the Bay of Bengal due to severe cyclonic storm “Bulbul” that shut all naval movement in the Teknaf-St Martin’s waterway route including the ship transportation to the island since Friday morning. The tourists went there before and after Thursday.
Meanwhile, water transport services on all the routes across the country resumed on Monday morning, after 59 hours of suspension.
A total of 13 launches left Sadarghat terminal around 6:00am after the weather became normal, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) confirmed.
On Friday night, BIWTA suspended launch services on all routes as cyclone ‘Bulbul’ approached Bangladesh.
