A total of 1200 flood affected farmers of the district got seed of black legume more known as Mashkalai and fertilizers as part of incentives programme from the government to recover their losses caused by recent floods.
According to sources, the devastating floods hit all seven upazilas- Sundarganj, Sadar, Fulchhari, Shaghata Sadullapur, Polasbari, and Gobindaganj upazilas of the district this year.
As a result, the standing crops including T-Aman paddy, Aman seedbed and summer vegetables were badly damaged making the farmers more worried about their food security.
To assist the affected farmers to recoup with their losses the government took the agri rehabilitation programme to distribute seed of Robi crop and fertilizers to the farmers and the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) implemented it.
As part of the programme, the flood hit farmers received seed of Mashkalai, and fertilizers- Di-ammonium Phosphate (DAP) and Muriate of Potash (MoP), office sources said.
Of the total, 150 farmers got seed of Mashkalai in Sadar upazila, 170 in Sundarganj upazila, 430 in Fulchhariupazila, 140 in Shaghat upazila, 80 in Sadullapur upazila, 90 in Palashbari upazila and 140 in Gobindaganj upazila
Each farmer got five kilograms (KG) of Mashkalai seed with 10- kg of DAP and five kg of MoP fertilizer, BT brinjal seed with 15-kg of DAP and 15-kg of MoP, from DAE officials.
The agri inputs were distributed among the farmers through the DAE after conducting the survey by the field level sub assistant agriculture officials about the flood hit farmers, sources said.
Deputy Director of the DAE Agriculturist Masudur Rahman told the BSS that the seed and chemical fertilizers distribution among the farmers had already been completed by the public representatives and district and upazila level officials of the DAE.
