Families demand their release: 12 students on remand

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on Monday placed 12 students on a two-day remand each, who allegedly spread rumour during their recent movement of safe road.
Metropolitan Magistrate Nurunnahar Yasmin passed the remand order hearing the submission of both sides.
The students are – Tareq Aziz, Md Tareq, Zahangir Alam, Mozahidul Islam, Al Amin, Zahirul Islam, Borhan Uddin, Iftekhar Alam, Mehedi Hasan Rajib, Mahfuz, Saifullah and Raihanul Abedin.
Earlier, Police produced the students to the court seeking a seven-day remand for each of the student.
On the contrary, the defence lawyers Jasim Uddin, Kamal Hossain and others sought their bail rejecting the remand.
Earlier, Deputy Police Commissioner (Media) Md Masudur Rahman confirmed the news at DMP Media centre. Metropolitan Detective Branch (DMP) of Police arrested them from Tejkunipara of Tejgaon in the capital in two cases filed with Tejgaon Industrial Police Station.
Earlier on Sunday, parents and guardians of the students claimed that the Detective Branch of Police picked up their sons in the early hours of September 5 (Wednesday).
They made the allegation at a press conference held in Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh (CRAB) conference room under the banner of ‘Helpless Families of 12 Missing Sons’.
