A rescue team of Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) rescued 12 sailors from a sunken lighter vessel in the Bay of Bengal on Monday and Tuesday morning. The cement clinker laden lighter vessel MV Khan & Sons-1 sank at outer anchorage of the Port after collision with a foreign vessel on Monday night.
Port Rescue Team rescued four sailors on Monday night at about 11pm and another eight the next morning, Deputy Conservator of CPA said. Sources said that, the lighter vessel sank after collision with another vessel.
After sensing the news of the capsize of lighter vessel, Port Rescue Team rushed to the spot and immediately rescued four sailors. The lighter vessel is owned by Olympic Cement Industry, sources said.
