Reckless driving again takes lives on the roads and highways. At least 12 persons including a college girl were killed and 40 others seriously injured in separate road crashes across the country on Saturday.
In Bagerhat, at least six persons were killed and 20 others injured after a bus smashed into a roadside tree in Fakirhat upazila of the district on Saturday.
The incident took place at Kakdanga area of the upazila.
Of the deceased, two workers were reportedly working on roadside and four others were passengers of the bus.
The deceased were identified as Hakmot Biswas,45, son of one Hakim from Bagerhat Sadar, Kuddus Sardar, 60, son of Kader Sardar from Koyra upazila, bus driver Farhad,45, helper Suman and two construction workers named Delwar,60, and Hosne-Ara,30, wife of one Salim Sheikh from Fakirhat.
Sheikh Abu Jahid, Officer-in-Charge of Fakirhat Police Station confirmed the matter to the media.
In Dhaka, at least two persons including a woman were killed in separate road crashes in the city on Saturday.
At New Market, a woman named Phul Bibi, 55, was killed and six members of her family got injured following a face to face collision between two private cars at Bata Signal intersection on Elephant Road of the city on Saturday morning.
Kazi Nakib Shakil, Sub-Inspector of New Market Police Station told the matter to the media that Phul Bibi was pronounced dead at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 7:30 pm.
At Mirpur, a youth named Abdullah, 18, was succumbed to die after facing a tragic road crash in Mirpur of the capital on Friday night.
Bachchu Miah, Officer-in-Charge of DMCH Outpost Police said. In Brahmanbaria, a construction worker named Sundur Ali, 55, was killed when a local Nosimon lost control over the steering at Fatehepur area under the Banchharampur upazila of the district on Saturday.
Salahuddin , Officer-in-Charge of Banchharampur Police Station told the matter to the media.
In Cumilla, a passenger of auto-rickshaw named Subhas Chandra Debnath, 55, was killed when a truck hit a CNG drive auto-rickshaw in Debidwar upazila of the district on Saturday afternoon.
Zahirul Anwar, Officer-in-Charge of Debidwar Police Station told the news to the media.
In Khulna, a madrasa student named Mahin Alam was succumed to his injuries after a road accident at Boroitola area of the city on Friday night.
