12 killed in road crashes in country

At least 12 people were killed and 50 others injured in several road crashes through out the country on Sunday.
In Gazipur, at least seven persons were killed and several others injured in two separate road crashes on Sunday.
At Sripur, five persons were killed and seven others injured when a train hit a bus on an unauthorised railway level crossing at Sripur of the district on Sunday morning.
One of the deceased was identified as Rahima Khatun Priya, 22, a worker of Zaman Fashion Wears Ltd and wife of Julhas Mia of Baliapara village in the upazila.
Sripur Railway Station Master Harun-ur-Rashid said Netrakona-bound ‘Balaka Express’ train from Dhaka hit the passenger bus carrying RMG workers on Maijhpara railway level crossing around 7 am leaving one dead on the spot and eleven others injured.
Among the injured, four died on way to a local hospital. The other injured were admitted to a local hospital.
After the incident, Gazipur Deputy Commissioner Anisur Rahman visited the spot. A three-member probe body, headed by Additional District Magistrate, has been formed to look into the accident.
Meanwhile, two motorcycle riders were killed in a collision with a truck in Bymile area of Konabari Police Station of Gazipur City Corporation. The accident happened on Sunday (July 24) around 4:30 pm on the Dhaka-Tangail highway. The deceased are – Md. Jangaliapara area of Kaliakair upazila of Gazipur Saman Ali’s son Masud Hossain (20) and Abdus Sattar’s son Rahul Hossain (22) of the same area. Sub-Inspector (SI) of Gazipur Metropolitan’s Konabari Police Station Sakhawat Imtiaz said,
In Cumilla, three people, including a couple, were killed after a private car fell into a ditch in Elliotganj of Cumilla. The accident happened around 7:00am.
The deceased were identified as Giasuddin Mahmud Faraji and his wife Jahanara Akter and sister-in-law Salma Akter.
Premdhan Majumdar of Elliotganj Highway Police confirmed the matter.
In Tangail, two drivers were killed and 15 others injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a bus in Kalihati upazila.
The identities of the deceased and injured could not be known yet.
Sub-Inspector (SI) of Bangabandhu Bridge East Police Station, Jilkad Hossain, said that a Dhaka-bound passenger bus of Hanif Paribahan collided with the truck coming from opposite direction at 5:00am in Sholla area on Dhaka-Bangabandhu Bridge Highway, leaving drivers of both vehicles dead on the spot and fifteen more people injured .
Later, the injured were rescued and sent to Tangail General Hospital, the SI said.
