12 killed in road accidents

UNB, Dhaka :
Twelve people, including a panel mayor of Chandina municipality, were killed and 12 others injured in road
accidents in Madaripur, Comilla, Sirajganj, Tangail and Natore districts on Saturday.
According to reports reaching the UNB news desk, five people, including three college students, were killed as a bus knocked them down near Haji Shariatullah Bridge in Shibchar upazila headquarters of Madaripur in the morning.
The deceased were identified as Imran, 18, Halima Begum, and Rehana, 18, students of Haji Ilias Ahmmed College, Arju Begum, 30, and Sakib, a one-year-old boy.
Police said the accident took place when a speeding bus knocked them down as they were standing alongside the road for crossing it around 10:00 am.
Imran and Rehana died on the spot while Arju, Sakib and Halima succumbed to their injuries after they were taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
In Comilla, two motorcyclists were crushed under the wheels of a truck on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Burichong upazila in the afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Fazlul Haque Nishan, 27, son of Abdul Barek, and his (Nishan) cousin Anwarul Haque Rasel, 28, son of Aminul Haque of Mohammadpur village in sadar upazila of Feni district.
Officer-in-charge of Moynamati Highway Police Station Sohel Ahmed said the moving truck hit the motorcycle while the duo-Nishan and Rasel-were riding it on the highway in Nimsar-Kabila area around 3pm, leaving them dead on the spot.
In another incident, a panel mayor, Mezbah Uddin Babul of Chandina municipality, also 52, No-5 ward councillor of Chandina municipality and son of Haji Mohammad Yusuf Master of Chandina upazila, was killed as a covered van hit his motorcycle on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway at Kather Pool in Chandina upazila around 1.00 am, said Sohel Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Moynamoti Highway Police Station.
In Sirajganj, a van-puller, Omed Ali,30, son of Tomser Ali of Mohonpur village in Ullahpara upazila, died on the spot as a bus hit his vehicle from behind at Saidabad intersection in Sadar upazila around 7am, said ATM Aminul Islam, officer-in-charge of Bangabandhu Bridge (west zone) Police Station.
In another incident, a microbus crashed into a moving bus on the Dhaka-Bogra Highway at Bhuiyangati in Raiganj upazila around 10am, leaving microbus passenger, Fancy Khatun, 23, of Sadullahpur upazila in Gaibandha, dead on the spot and others seven passengers injured.
In Tangail, a bus rammed a motorcycle on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway in Mirzapur upazila around 1:30 pm, killing motorcyclist Khatib Uddin Mamun, 32, a resident of Muradbari village in Nachole upazila of Chapainawabganj, on the spot.
In Natore, a bus hit an auto-rickshaw at Khejurtala in Boraigram upazila at noon, leaving auto-rickshaw driver Mohorram Ali dead on the spot and its five passengers injured.
