A mobile court on Wednesday morning sentenced 12 fishermen to three months’ imprisonment each for catching fish from a water-body at Patul Ghat in Naldanga upazila defying a ban during the current monsoon.
The mobile court led by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sharmin Akter Jahan, an executive magistrate, conducted a drive in Halti Beel (water-body) area and arrested the 12 fishermen while they were catching fish there in the morning in defiance of a ban imposed by the local administration.
The court also seized 3,000 metres of illegal fishing net from their possession.
Later the arrested were produced before the mobile court which handed down the verdict.
The court also destroyed the seized nets.
