At least 12 people were injured in a clash between two groups of Awami League in Gazaria upazila on Friday over upazila polls.
Police said the followers of ruling party’s rebel candidate Refayetulla Khan Tota, also the current upazila chairman, attacked the supporters of Awami League-backed Amirul Islam at the party’s local
office in Sonali Market area around noon.
The clash ensued when the rivals retaliated. A chase and counter-chase took place during the melee that left 12 people injured from the both sides.
The injured were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and a local hospital.
Officer-in-charge Mamun-ur-Rashid of Gazaria Police Station confirmed the incident.
