The admission test of Dhaka University’s (DU) ‘Ka’ unit for the first year honours courses for the academic session 2015-2016 was held on Friday.
The one and a half hours long test started at 10am at 76 examination centres on the DU campus and other educational institutes in the capital.
A total of about 71,000 candidates appeared for 1,600 seats under the unit this year.
Meanwhile, a mobile court sentenced two years jail to one Hasibul Hasan Shanto on the charge of using an electronic device in the examination centre.
Executive Magistrate Mousumi Mahbub passed the order at the DU Proctor’s office in the afternoon. He has been sent to jail.
Shanto was detained at about 10:45am at Mohammadpur Model School and College center, said Md Rabiul Islam, Assistant Proctor of DU.
Rabiul said, there was no possibility of question leak before the start of the admission test. But during the examination, someone might take the question paper out illegally.
DU Proctor AM Amzad Ali told The New Nation that Shanto admitted that he used the device, which he bought at Tk five lakh from a DU student.
“The police are trying to arrest another DU student named Farhad Mahmud. He will be arrested soon,” he said. On the other hand, the detectives in their separate drives in different areas of the capital on Friday arrested 12 people on charges of selling ‘fake question papers’ for admission into Dhaka University (DU).
Detectives claimed these men had taken money from candidates assuring them of giving support with question papers. Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Muntasirul Islam said that the suspects had been picked up from Farmgate, Nakhalpara, and Tejkunipara, in Dhaka on Thursday night.
AM Amzad Ali said that police first arrested a man at Farmgate for alleged swindling in the guise of providing ‘question papers’.
Detectives later nabbed others from various areas, he said.
