A court here on Friday sentenced 12 people of Harijan community to life term imprisonment for double murder in Parbatipur uapzila under Dinajpur district in 2000.
The court also fined each of them Tk 5,000, in default to suffer more one year in jail.
Nur Islam, Judge of Additional District Session Judge Court-3, delivered the verdict at the crowded court room in present of seven accused as five others were still on the run. The convicts are Bablu, Junardi, Hira Lal, Deep Lal, Singhasan, Bisundar, Lal Jeet, Swapan, Kanaiya, Durvoya, Joynal and Nandalal, all belonging to Harijan community, and residents of Sweeperpatti of Parbatipur upazila.
According to the prosecution, Montu Basfor, son of Raj Kumar Basfor and his nephew Rajan Basfor and others called the two from their home on July 6 night in 2000. They took them to Zinnahmath in Sahebpara area under Parbatipur municipality and stabbed them to death.
Later, Raj Kumar Basfor, father of Montu Basfor filed a murder case with Parbatipur police station on July 7 in 2000.
