Twelve students of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism of Dhaka University (DU) on Monday received the ‘Professor Sitara Parvin Award’ for their excellent performances in BSS (honours) examinations in 2014.
The awardees are – Jenina Islam Abir, M Ruman Shikdar, Nazma Akhter, Nishat Parvej, Choton Dev Nath, Mousumi Khatun, Sahibur Rahman, Toufiq Aziz, Farzana Sultana, Farhana Jesmin, Musfika Islam and Sorifa Umme Shrina. Vice-Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique distributed cheques among the awardees in the university’s RC Majumdar Arts Auditorium. Chairman of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism of DU Prof Mofizur Rahman presided over the function, while, noted actor Ali Zaker presented the summary of a memorial book titled “Bohe Nirontor Nattodhara” on late Prof Sitara Parvin.
The VC paid rich tributes to the memories of Prof Sitara and advised the awardees to follow the honesty, efficiency as well as the ideology of Prof Sitara Parvin.
Professor Ahaduzzaman Mohammad Ali, husband of late Prof Sitara Parvin and teacher of the department also spoke on the occasion. Professor Sitara Parvin, a teacher of the Mass Communication and Journalism Department of DU, died in a road accident in the USA in 2005. She was a daughter of former president Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed.
