12 business heroes to get President’s Award

Recognising their contributions to the national economy, the government has decided to honour 12 business heroes with President’s Award on Wednesday.
A senior official at the Industries Ministry said that with an aim to inspire all to expedite the country’s industrial development and create more jobs the government has taken the move to recognise their contribution.
“This is going to be the first of its kind in the country to recognise industrial sector’s contributions to the national income,” he said.
According to him, 12 industrial units in five categories have been selected for the award – ‘President’s Award for Industrial Develeopment-2014’. Industrialists, who established factories in the private sector, involved in production of goods and are creating employment opportunities are eligible for the award.
President Abdul Hamid is scheduled to hand over the awards to the winners at a function at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the city.
Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu and Industries Secretary Md Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan will also be present.
The five categories are large industry, medium industry, small industry, cottage industry and Hi-tech industry.
Under the large industry category, BSRM Steel Limited, Abdul Monem Limited and BRB Cable Industries Limited have been selected for the award.
Basumati Distribution Limited, National AgriCare Import and Export Limited and Jalalabad Frozen Foods Limited have been selected for the award under medium industry category.
Three industrial units under the small industry category are Masers Helal and Brothers, Adhesion Products Private Limited and Prince Chemical Company Limited.
Meanwhile, Western Marine Shipyard Limited and Service Engine Limited will be awarded under Hi-tech Industry category while Janani Weaving Factory will be honored with the President’s Award as only industry in cottage industry category.
“The recognisation has inspired us to come up with more innovative plans in the coming days. The section for the award has, indeed, widened our responsibility,” Chief Executive and Managing Director of the Adhesion Group of Industries T K Chakraborty told the New Nation,
Thanking the government for evaluating them, Chakraborty said they will continue to contribute to the national economy with ‘patriotic spirit’.
However, a senior official at the Industries Ministry said that the government wants to see 34.9 percent contribution to the country’ s gross domestic product (GDP) from the industrial sector by 2021 with 25 percent labour force.
“To that end the government formulated the industrial policy 2016 for achieving the target,” he said.
