Bangladesh Road Transport Authority, Chattogram has withdrawn CNG cylinder run (cylinder bomb) autorickshaw from Chattogram roads. But still about one lakh date expired CNG autorickshaw (cylinder bomb) remained plying on roads. But BRTA sources said the process of withdrawing the date expired autorickshaws are now in pipe line. Meanwhile the owners of new autorickshaws are from Tk.14 lakh to 15 lakh. With this advantages of the owners, the show rooms/dealers firm are pricing by more 50 to 60 thousand each. But the BRTA sources said after receipt of any written allegations of taking excess price of chesis, necessary actions against them will be taken.
BRTA sources said 13 thousand CNG autorickshaws were registered with BRTA Chattogram from 2001 to 2005 with expiry period for 9 years but following the demands of owners & drivers, the vehicle expired 15 times. In last December, 13,000 autorickshaws time expired and out of these 12,000 autorickshaws scrapped followed by new replacement.There is allegation that the toturing and dilapidated time expired cng autorickshaws were plying in city road since long and moreover, the passengers were gripped with panic of cylinder explosion.
In 2017 onwards, a number of drivers and passenger died of cylinder explosion and few critically hurt . Following the demands of owners, drivers and trade unions, the popular AL govt with directions from the concerned ministry, the 8000 registered auto rickshaws of 2001,2002 & 2003 have been dismantled and replaced by new one with new numbers in 2019 and 2018. The scrapping programs again restarted from November,2020 and dismantling about 3,616 cNG autorickshaws of 2004 registered . Now the passenger are free from the panic of cylinder explosion.
It is learnt , after starting of scrapping of autorickshaws, the tyranny of the inter district cng lifting gang increased and these CNG lifters are trying to rename the stolen autorickshaw by their names after dismantling the body. The matter of CNG lifting was apprised to the concerned ministry, ACC Chairman and concerned deptts on December 10 last by Chatogram Autorickshaw Auto Tempo Four Stork CNG Malik Samity.While contacted BRTA Chattogram’s Deputy Director Md. Shahidullah said CNG scrapping is a part of govt programs and BRTA is now fully digitalized.
He said we are trying o complete scrapping of CNG autorickshaws of 2004 Model and a vested quarters are engaged in adverse propaganda against the process of scrapping.
He said scrapping program is implemented in presence of Executive Magistrate, BRTA officials, different d etective branch officials and media persons.Deputy Director Md. Shahdiulllah said we are trying to resolve the matter of realizing excess money by show rooms or dealers instantly after receipt of complaints . He also urges the new buyers of CNG autorickshaw if face any nuisances by the show rooms or dealers .
