11,684 arrested in four days

Staff Reporter :About 3,115 persons, including 26 alleged militants, were arrested on the fourth day of special drive raising the total number of arrestees at 11, 684 after the operation launched on Friday last.”Of the 3,115 arrested persons, 2,368 were nabbed under warrants issued by relevant courts, 295 in narcotics cases, 38 in arms cases and 388 in other cases,” Kamrul Ahsan, spokesman of police headquarters said. He said about 145 militants so far have been identified after scrutinizing identities of 11, 684 persons arrested in four days.”Of the 26 militants arrested on the fourth day, 12 persons were identified as members of banned militant outfit Ja’amatul Mujahedin Bangladesh [JMB], five from Hijbut Tahrir, two Ansarullah Bangla Team [ABT], one Allar Dal, one Harkat-ul Jihad al Islami [HuJI] and seven from others,” Kamrul Ahsan said.Police recovered 23 firearms including seven foreign-made pistols, 10 magazines, 6 cocktails, 500 gram gunpowder, anti-government leaflets, extremist books, huge quantity of narcotics and other materials during the drive. Besides, the police seized 687 motorbikes in last 24 hours, Police headquarters sources said.
