A three-day festival on occasion of 114th birth anniversary of rationalist philosopher Aroj Ali Matubbar started in Barisal on Wednesday afternoon calling to preserve, study and follow philosophy of his life and works.
The festival was organized in front of the library premises established by Aroj Ali Matubbar in his native home at Lamchhari , about 11-kilometers far from Barisal city center.
Darshanik Aroj Manjil Public Library organized the festival with book fair, awarding Aroj-Padak, cultural function, discussion on life and achievement of Aroj Ali.
Shohidul Alam, deputy commissioner Barisal, on Wednesday afternoon inaugurated the festival.
Shah Azizur Rahman Khokan, Manik Matubbar, Shamim Ali Matubbar, Sheikh Mofizur Rahman, leaders of the library and festival convening committee, Ziaul Islam Sabu, local UP chairman, Abdur Rouf, upazila nirbahi officer, also took part in the discussion at different sessions.
The speakers and participants said Aroj Ali Matubbar was a truly homegrown philosopher without any formal academic training. He had not, in fact, attended any institution of higher learning.
