‘1,11,34,211 workers go abroad till Aug 29, 2017’

Some 1,11,34,211 Bangladeshi workers have gone abroad receiving clearance from Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training (BMET) till August 29, 2017.
Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam disclosed this on Sunday whiling replying to a written question from a treasury bench member M Abdul Latif of Chittagong-11.
Of the total overseas workers, the highest 32,21,975 have gone to Saudi Arabia, he said.
Replying to another question from a treasury bench member Ali Azam of Bhola-2, the minister said the overseas job seekers received training on different trades before their departure. “Especially a three-day pre-departure training is compulsory for male workers before receiving embarkation clearance from the BMET,” he added.
The government has made compulsory a 30-day house keeping training for the Middle East countries bound female workers, including Saudi Arabia, Nurul Islam informed the House.
