A 110-year-old woman committed suicide by hanging in Charamchaland (Gata Para) village of Charalgi union in Gafargaon upazila of Mymensingh. Gafargaon police recovered the body on Monday morning. The deceased was identified as Asiya Khatun, 110, wife of Samar Ali of the area.
According to police and locals, Asiya Khatun was suffering from various ailments due to old age and was mentally unbalanced. She had tried to commit suicide more than once before but failed. In the morning, the relatives found her dead and informed the Gafargaon police.
Gafargaon Police Station OC Anukul Sarkar said police had been sent to the spot after receiving the information. The body would be recovered and action would be taken on the basis of the autopsy report.
