Some 11,000 people of the country had successfully signed up for the Covid-19 vaccine as of Saturday morning.
The registration process was opened to the public on Wednesday afternoon, according to DGHS Director General (DG) Dr ABM Khurshid Alam.
Dr Khurshid was speaking to journalists after attending a program on World NTD (neglected tropical diseases) Day in the capital.
“We will allow on-the-spot registration for people who are unable to do it online,” said the DG.
Vaccine registration website www.surokkha.gov.bd was opened to the public following the inauguration of the Covid-19 vaccination campaign. However, the Surokkha app is yet to appear on Google Play.
Officials concerned said the app will be available on the Android store after it passes the review stage, which could happen any time within the next four days.
The app has also been made for iOS devices, but authorities are awaiting feedback on the Google Play version before submitting it to the Apple App Store.
Vaccine doses arrive in 36 districts
Health authorities in 36 districts have already received their allotted doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, said Dr Khurshid. “We have taken all necessary measures to efficiently start inoculating people nationwide.”
He said the people will soon be able to receive vaccines at 613 centres across Bangladesh, and 49 of the centres have already been prepared in Dhaka.
As many as 6,990 vaccination teams will be deployed across the country, but the numbers might change in the future depending on the situation, the DGHS director general added.
Regarding the second shipment of vaccines from India, Dr Khurshid said it would reach Bangladesh in February but the exact date is yet to be confirmed.
