A total of 110 Bangladesh Navy (BN) personnel, working as peacekeepers under the United Nations Interim Force in the Lebanon (UNFIL) were awarded UN Peace Medals on June 3 for their contribution to peace and stability of Lebanon.
UNIFIL Maritime Task Force (MTF) Commander Rear Admiral Sergio Renato Berna Salgueirinho handed the awards to the Bangladesh peacekeepers at a ceremony in Lebanon capital Beirut, said a press release on Monday.
Lebanese Naval Commander, Commander in Chief Senior Captain Haissam Dannaoui was also present at the programme.
MTF Commander expressed this gratitude to all naval personnel for their contribution and inspired them to perform their duty with proper safety measures to be safe from the pandemic coronavirus.
Bangladesh Navy personnel have been participating in UN peacekeeping mission since 1993.
BN naval force supports the Lebanese Navy in preventing the unauthorized entry of arms or related materiel by sea into Lebanon. Its mission also focuses on assisting Lebanon raise its own naval forces to control and protect Lebanon’s seaways and territorial waters.
