Chittagong district police in a series of overnight drives arrested 110 people, including six gamblers, with yaba and liquor from different upazilas of the district on Sunday night.
Abdul Awal, Additional Superintendent of Police (Special Branch) of Chittagong district, said police detained the 106 people including six gamblers with 70 pieces yaba and 49 litres country-made liquor from different upazilas of the district for their alleged involvement in sabotage acts and vandalism.
Among the detainees, 90 had arrest warrants issued against them and 16 were accused in regular cases, he said.
UNB from Cox’s Bazar reports: Police arrested two alleged drug peddlers along with 2,700 pieces of Yaba tablets from Burmese Market area in Teknaf upazila on Sunday night.
Sub-inspector Abdur Rahim, second officer of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station, said they conducted a drive in the area and arrested Md. Shafi, 22, son of Jafar Alam, and Abdus Shakur, 22, son of Syed Alam, along with 2,700 pieces of Yaba tablets.
Both the arrestees are the residents of Noyabazar villege of Hnila union parishad of the upazila.
A case is filed in this connection with Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station.
UNB from Khagrachari adds: Members of Bangladesh Army arrested two youths along with a foreign-made pistol and three rounds of bullets from Khagrachhari Gate area of the district town on Sunday evening.
Sources said On secrete information, Army personnel at Mahalchari Zone conducted a drive at the area and arrested Biplab Chakma, 25, and Prabitta Chakma, 26, along with a foreign-made pistol and three rounds of bullets.
The arrestees claimed themselves to be the activists of United People’ s Democratic Front (UPDF).
