Eleven passengers who returned from the UK were sent on a 14-day mandatory quarantine from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Friday.
They landed at the airport on Qatar Airways and Emirates Airlines flights in the morning.
Later, they were sent to the Hajj Camp in Ashkona on institutional quarantine as part of the government’s decision to enforce mandatory quarantine, said Dr Shahriar Sajjad, chief health officer at the airport. They can go to any of the hotels designated by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) for quarantine, he said.
Earlier, the government has designated seven residential hotels for the 14-day mandatory quarantine of those return from the UK following the emergence of a new variant of coronavirus there.
The Health and Family Welfare Ministry sent a letter to the Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry on Thursday in this regard.
The seven hotels are Hotel Omni Residency, Best Western Plus Maya, Hotel Grace-21, Hotel Afford Inn, White Palace Hotel, Marino Royal Hotel and Momento Hotel.
The seven hotels were fixed through the DGHS where the UK returnees will have to stay at their own cost.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh issued a circular on December 29 in this regard.
As per the circular, every passenger arriving from January 1 to 15 must remain in a 14-day mandatory quarantine apart from showing Covid-negative certificate.
