11 more remanded over bomb attack on CU bus

A local court on Monday placed 11 more people on remand for separate terms in connection with the bomb attack on a bus carrying Chittagong University teachers in Hathazari upazila.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Abu Salem Mohammad Noman passed the order when police produced them before it seeking remand, said Chittagong District Court Police Inspector Anu Mong Marma.
Of the accused, two were put on a two-day remand while nine others on a one-day one, he said.
Earlier, the same court on Sunday granted a two-day remand for seven Shibir activists in connection with the incident. They are Towhidul Islam, Kamrul Barakat, Mostafa Kamal, Imam Hossain, Md Yusuf, Mamun Kazi and Shah Alam.
So far, police have arrested 25 people in connection with the incident after three cases had been filed.
At least 12 people, including nine CU teachers, were injured as miscreants hurled bombs at a bus carrying them at Chhararkul in Hathazari upazila on Wednesday morning.
The teachers who fell victim to the attack blamed Islami Chhatra Shibir activists for the incident.
Meanwhile, a case has been filed against 72 leaders and activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir in connection with the recovery of 21 crude bombs from a jungle near F Rahman Hall of Chittagong University.
Kamal Krishna Dhar, sub-inspector of Hathazari Police Station, filed the case against 47 identified and 25 unidentified Shibir men on Sunday night.
Besides, police in a drive in the intervening night of Sunday and Monday arrested five Shibir activists form different areas surrounding the CU campus, said Mohammad Ismail, officer-in-charge of Hathazari Police Station. Earlier, police recovered 21 hand bombs from a jungle adjacent to F Rahman Hall on Sunday.
