Tareen Rahman :At least 11 people, including a BCL leader, died and 25 others were injured in separate road accidents in different parts of the country in the last 24 hours ending on Sunday evening.Of them, 4 people died on spot and another 6 were seriously injured when there was a head on collision between a passenger bus and a Mahendropur bound tractor in Doulatdia-Kushtia Highway of Gandhimara area of Rajbari around 2:30 pm.The injured were admitted in Rajbari Hospital and Faridpur Medical College. The deceased are Mahendra driver , Saidul , 30, Kajol, 35, Smriti Sarkar, 30 and Jillur Rahman, 27.In another road accident in Mirjapur of Tangail, five people were killed and 10 others injured . The accident took place at Postkamuri-Charpara Bypass area on the Dhaka-Tangail highway under Mirzapur upazila of the district Saturday morning.The deceased were identified as Md.Ashraful Islam, 35 of Gaibandha , Anisur Rahman, 45, in Naogaon district ,Jamir Ali, 35, in Savar, Abdul Kuddus , 28, from Naogaon and Ataur Rahman, 52 of Jaipurhat.Officer-in-Charge of Gorai highway police Humayun Kabir said the accident occurred when a Dhaka-bound bus hit a standing potato-laden truck in the area at about 4 am, leaving three passengers of the bus dead on the spot and 12 others injured.The injured were sent to Mirzapur Kumudini Hospital where another two succumbed to their injuries. A case was filed with Mirzapur thana in this connection.In another separate accident in Raipur upazilah of Lakhhipur, Rabidaspur area a motor bike with two passengers was hit by a speeding truck around 2:30 pm. A Chhatra League leader who was a student of Tejgaon College , Shihab, 20, died on spot. His friend a BCL activist Mohammad Shaon, 22, organizing secretary of Poura Unit BCL, was injured and taken by local people to Lakhkhipur Sadar Hospital. Local people were furious by this occurrence and they kept Lakhipur – Raipur road blocked for two hours as a protest and burnt one truck and broke at least 10 buses at Raipur bus terminal.Additional Police Super Md. Nasim led a polce force to the spot of accident and the responsible truck driver was arrested. Later, the blockade was withdrawn and normal traffic started moving in the road.Meanwhile, in Mirsharai area, an old lady was hit by a reckless bus who later died. She was identified as one Nur Islam (55). This accident took place early Saturday morning, around 6:00am in Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Uttar Wahedpur area. The old lady was a resident of Uttar Wahedpur. She was a mother of 6, three sons and 3 daughters.Sources reveal, that Nur Islam went out for morning walk early Saturday morning which was her daily routine. On the way, she was hit by a unruly bus in the Highway and laid in the spot with serious injuries. The local people took her to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where she breathed her last around 12:00 noon. Fariduddin, Incharge of Police in Jorargonj Highway denied his knowledge of news of this accident.
